Have you ever listened to a book? Seriously, I really meant that! Nowadays technology has made that possible! I here present LibriVox that provides free audiobooks from the public domain. There are many options for listening. The first step is to get the mp3 or ogg files into your own computer. They have over 5000 projects in the catalog! That means it is a flood of new audiobooks for you and what is best: for free!
LibriVox provides books in all languages and that’s great, isn’t it? You also can volunteer to record an audiobook with your own voice! Wow!
Librivox has much more to offer! They have scientific works as podcasts too! Why not use the gems of their catalogue to catch up on the vast field of science? And that range from The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus to Darwin’s The Descent of Man.
As for literature fans I’d recomend Edgar Allan Poe Poems or Frankenstein considering the fact that Halloween is next week (10/31)!
An audiobook is like a podcast, which is a way to automatically download audiofiles to your computer from a specific topic, or “feed.” You can listen to it on your computer, on a portable media device such as an ipod, or you can burn the files to a CD and listen on a regular stereo or on your car.
What are you waiting for? Go there, browse it and get your favorite books as audiobooks!
Audiobooks will never be able to replace the ability to cozy up on the couch with a good munchable and get lost in a book. But they are great for in car rides. I got all of the Harry Potter Books, and I listen to them so I can get a whole new perspective that the movies tend to lose. A
But audiobook podcasts seem like a great idea too, and free is always great. So I will definitely have to increase my car tunes. =]
I thought about that only in order to offer another way to help people get interested on literature and of course I meant to help by offering strategies for practing listening, that is, by the way one of the most difficult parts in learning another language. Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I truly think you are right!
