Hey, what do you know about pronunciation? Do you think your pronunciation is great? Are you experiencing problems on understanding English sounds?
For all those questions there’s a simple question as an answer: DO YOU STUDY PRONUNCIATION?
Probably the answer to that question is NO! All right. There is a nice and challenging way to learn more about the way English sounds work. Language scientists developed a set of symbols to represent the sounds of languages. Each language has its own sound system, so does English!
The group of symbols is known as IPA, that stands for International Phonetic Alphabet! Inside your book you may have seen many different and strange symbols (θεæ). They are like a photograph of the English sounds. Using them correctly makes your pronunciation better. Are you interested?
Oxford has provided us with a nice tool for studying these sounds-> OXFORD EXERCISES
If you own an Apple device such as iPhone, iPod, iPad or Mac you can download an app designed by Macmillan and play games and do exercises using those great symbols! -> apple store
